Amazon Kindle is no longer the sole king of the e-book reader market. The device may still have the highest market-share around, but Barnes & Nobles has taken a huge step toward developing a viable competitor to Amazon Kindle. Nook, B&N’s eb00k reader, is just as capable of Amazon Kindle, but it comes with a few additional features that are not included in Amazon Kindle. Nook comes with WiFi capability, so you can connect online by taking advantage of your home wireless network. You can also use Nook’s AT&T wireless service to get your books from B&N in less than a minute.
Nook is also capable of displaying PDF files easily, something that you can’t get done without conversion on Amazon. But more importantly, the LCD navigation makes it much easier to read books and go through your content on your Nook. Nook’s LendMe feature is nothing but revolutionary in this market. Till now, many have complained about their inability to lend their Kindle ebooks to others. With Nook, you can easy lend your books to your friends and colleagues and have them review your book for a few days without any restrictions. It’s for a limited time, but that’s what lending is all about, isn’t it?
Nook also takes advantage of the Android platform, which is a first for an e-book reader. The device is not accepting Android apps as of yet, but there are indications that B&N is heading that way with its e-book reader. Add to that the fact that Nook owners can get exclusive content in B&N store, and you can see what B&N’s strategy is all about. Nook may not blow Kindle away as far as its features are concerned, but it is certainly a superior device to Amazon Kindle. The device comes with a decent battery life as well (1o days with wireless off). So it’s all good news for those who are looking for an eco-friendly reader to replace those good old books.
Nook is another eco-friendly e-book reader that helps you save money and the environment as well. But it’s just a start.
