Green Networking – Part I: Eco-Friendly Routers

Whether you are running a business or intend to create a network in your home, you are going to need a decent router that not only provides you with good performance but also keeps your connection up at the same time. If you are a business owner, you’ve got to watch your energy consumption as well. A router by itself may not consume too much power but these small little things add up, and the next thing you know you are consuming a whole lot during your business hours from all the gadgets you are using in your office. So by going green with these small little gadgets, you have a good chance of saving money on your energy bill and help save the earth in the process.

There aren’t too many green routers around. But NetGear has been the flag holder in this area. Routers may not consume too much energy but wouldn’t you invest in an energy star router if it didn’t cost too much money and didn’t provide you with inferior performance? I know I would. NETGEAR WNR2000 Wireless-N Router: a more affordable wireless N router that is energy efficient and great for homes. You can also use it in your business, but you may want to stick with a more complete router for business. The set up is probably the easiest in this group.

There are plenty of other ways to go green at home or business. But that doesn’t mean you should ignore how your set up your network as well. Going green on your network may be a small step, but it’s still a step in the right direction towards a more eco-friendly life.
